Chassis & Suspension Component Engineer - Midlands £Neg - Chassis - Engineering Ref: 273 Date Posted: Monday 29 Apr 2024 Chassis and Suspension Component Engineer An experienced engineer with direct responsibility for delivering the Suspension Systems content for a vehicle project. Department Overview: Chassis Systems are responsible for the design, engineering and releasing of the following systems and components: Wheels & tyres, foundation brakes, suspension, steering, subframes, springs & dampers, roll control, active chassis controls and powertrain mounting systems across all future and current car lines. Job Description The role is for a Senior Engineer (Component Owner) supporting the Lead Engineer with the design and development of suspension components, from concept through to production. You will be responsible for: Support the design & release of front suspension components, to include Control arms and links, bushes and ball joints, suspension knuckles, hub & bearing assemblies. Work with Lead engineer and CAD designers to deliver concept system layout and component package maturation. Assist with development of performance targets and primary concepts for suspension systems for early prototype build phases through to production. Liaise with external suppliers to design and develop systems and components that meet specified requirements and targets, ensuring parts are delivered on time and to the required quality standard. Work with Vehicle Line Managers to enable swift and accurate deployment of components and systems across all vehicle model lines. Work with Vehicle Attribute teams to deliver tunable components which meet performance targets and freeze dates. Support DFMEAs, quality history reviews, robustness studies, DVP and Final Engineering Sign Off reporting. Support CAE work and rig testing for system validation. Support vehicle and rig tests with prototype components where required. Track and report status versus targets, create reference material and best practice documentation to aid ‘Right First Time’ component delivery. Knowledge, skills and experience Knowledge of suspension components design and delivery Understanding of Casting, Forging and/or Elastomeric components manufacturing processes Experience with generating and updating timing plans Knowledge of MISSION or an equivalent Product Creation System such as GPDS, FPDS, AMPCS. Working knowledge of Chassis CAE tools (ADAMS/Car, VI-Grade, Lotus SHARK) preferred but not essential Working knowledge of Siemens NX preferred but not essential IT Skills MS Office skills essential (Office 365 preferred) Experience with Jira / Jama would be preferrable CAD package at a viewer level Education Engineering degree in an appropriate engineering discipline.
