Powertrain HIL Test Engineer

We are searching for someone with automotive industry experience and an understanding of automotive industry requirements and standards. You will be a hands-on engineer, who will embrace the company’s cultural and professional business environment and will work directly with our customers and with the suppliers involved in developing and releasing Powertrain system / component designs for Electric vehicle systems.

The responsibilities of this position will include, but not be limited to:

  • Responsible for a set of subsystem/function testing and validation. This involves the following:
  • Review of the requirements.
  • Creation of Test Specs. Implementation of the test cases into the relevant Test assets (HIL rig and/or Vehicle).
  • Creation of Automated tests using (HIL rig and/or Vehicle).
  • Implementation of the test cases into the relevant Test assets (HIL rig and/or Vehicle).
  • Creation of Automated tests using (HIL rig and/or Vehicle).
  • Identify/Raise the needs for new test assets.
  • Implement controls logic in Simulink Models to enable complex testing logics.
  • Raise identified bugs via Jira (be able to present them clearly explain, provide evidence and report the issue).

You will be involved/Supporting in other activities of the team such as:

  • Build & Maintenance of new HIL rigs
  • Updates of the wiring.
  • Configuration Desk settings.
  • Control Desk Layout.
  • Plant model logic updates (Using Simulink).
  • Creation and maintenance of existing scripts (Matlab, Python).

You will also be expected to:

Support vehicle issues on your domain of responsibility (trouble shooting).

Understand the impact of the raised bugs into the project.

Keep in mind the end-to-end functionality under test.

Technical Documentation

To be responsible for generating all technical documentation necessary to verify the system and align with the gateway processes. This includes – but is not limited to – design validation plan (DVP), testing standards and software specifications, demonstrating compliance with technical specifications, DFMEA worksheets, functional safety work products. It is expected that the Powertrain System test engineer shall be capable of autonomously reviewing requirements and generating test specification as required with minimal support required day-to-day outside of sign-off.

Testing of Powertrain Systems

This role is required to support test spec generation for Powertrain system function validation. The tests need  to be generated which cross reference back to requirements. It will be required to liaise between the core Powertrain team and the software supplier based in the UK and Europe.

Software Definition and Requirements Capture

The test engineer is responsible for supporting capturing the software requirements within a specified toolchain (e.g. Jama) and ensuring the supplier product development to deliver software against the planned vehicle platform releases.

It is expected that the test engineer shall understand the software life-cycle and have hands-on experience developing automotive modules with complex software requirements within an OEM or Tier 1 application.

Further it is expected that the Powertrain System test engineer shall be fully familiar with the definition and animation of Automotive battery, eMotor, inverter, DCDC converter and on-board charging system.

Additionally, the Powertrain System test engineer shall be fully familiar with the specification and creation of the above Powertrain system test suites. The definition of test specifications mapped back to requirements and the methodical (preferably automated) execution of these test specifications.

Tier 1 Supplier Management

It is expected that the Powertrain System test engineer will be required to engage directly with third party Tier 1 suppliers to take verification responsibility for the systems allocated to them. As such, it is a core requirement that the test engineer shall be a confident communicator on all technical topics and able to directly engage with third parties as a representative of FutureMotiv and its customers.

Technical attributes

  • Minimum 3 years (1 year for a junior/trainee role) of experience in automotive Powertrain systems / component engineering, development & testing.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering (or related professional accreditation).
  • Familiarity with automotive (OEM) specifications and standards.
  • Knowledge of Powertrain system product integration.
  • Experience in the design, build and test of structures for Powertrain system applications
  • Familiar with Engineering Diagnostic Tools.
  • Knowledge of Vector Canoe / Canalyser; Analysis of CAN, LIN, Ethernet communication busses.
  • Perform safety management activities to relevant standards during all project phases including preliminary hazard analysis, S/DFMEA, qualitative and quantitative fault tree analysis, safety goal generation.
  • Ensure effective communication, containment and action plans with regards to quality related issues.
  • Support effective root cause analysis and permanent corrective actions are implemented for quality issues.
  • ETAS INCA experience will be beneficial.
